Customized Deck
Options include platforms, top mount pumpers, cruiser, garage and surf skate decks, with your shape and flex. Or go full custom with a mold of your own design!
Lead time varies greatly depending on what materials are in stock at the time of order and the amount of time I can carve out to make your deck (I have a day job and a family). Expect 3 weeks minimum, probably more. Before paying, email for a current lead time estimate and to make sure your idea is something I think will work. Cancellation refunds will subtract the roughly 4% payment processing fee and possibly raw material costs.
All shapes are hand drawn, hand cut, and hand sanded. I will show you the drawn shape before cutting. Mounting holes are drilled with a jig, ensuring perfect spacing. All decks are eco friendly and light weight. The use of lightweight natural materials provides a perfect balance of weight vs vibration dampening.
Deck Layup Options:
-Top quality 1/16" FSC (sustainable) Canadian Maple skins and cross ply are used on every deck.
-Holes are reinforced with hemp composite, which can be cut into creative shapes and dyed different colors.
-Core Options Include: (1) Lightweight basswood core reinforced with hemp composite for the perfect amount of torsional flex for LDP pumping (think of it as an integrated torsion tail). (2) Lightweight basswood core reinforced with ultrathin maple cross ply, which has less torsional flex than the hemp composite. -The glue is a proprietary rot and warp proof 100% natural Casein glue.
-My preferred wood stain is shades of gray obtained with varying concentrations of natural iron acetate. You may also choose a traditional wood stain color.
-Clear coat options: (1) Water based eco friendly exterior grade gloss polyurethane. (2) Shellac is the most eco friendly option, consisting of beetle shells dissolved in alcohol. Colors range from clear to orange to garnet. Shellac requires you to clean and recoat every 6 months. This can easily be done with wax free Zinsser brand spray available at big box stores, or you can buy flakes, and dissolve your own.
These decks tolerate occasional rain skates just fine, but they are not recommended for use as your primary rain deck. There are full “plastic” decks made for that.
If you go with an existing mold:
-LDP Molds: 11 and 8mm progressive concave options (measured at 9.25" width). Both have 6 inches flat across the center for the first 18 inches, followed by a tapered concave towards the rear. The tapered concave allows the deck to taper behind the standing platform, reducing the weight, while retaining the structural strength that concave provides. All truck mounts are flat.
-Cruiser / Surf skate / Garage Mold: 11mm progressive concave (measured at 9.25" width), 3" flat across the middle for truck mounts, with a mild 5 degree kick available if you want a kick.
What I need to know:
-Platform, Top mount, cruiser, garage, or surfs skate?
-Which concave option? Or custom mold?
-Sketch of the outside shape you want
-Width? (Up to 11 inches)
-Length? (Pricing varies based on raw material length, costing more over 35")
-Hole placement and wheel base (min. 1/2" spacing recommended)
-Rocker, Camber, or Flat?
-Stain color or natural?
-Clear coat polyurethane or Shellac?
-Stiffness/Thickness? (depends on wheel base, skater weight, and preference).
-If you pay for the full custom option, you can customize the mold shape. Molds take a long time to shape once the foam arrives.
-Wheel wells are sanded by hand. Positioning will be much more precise if you can send the trucks you plan to use (if I don't already have them).
Things that cannot be customized:
-I don't do fiberglass, carbon fiber, or plastics. You can always glass the deck yourself, of course.
